IDEA

Welcome!

IDEA is an internet destination for faculty members who want to learn about the process of instructional design. We're here to offer you everything you need to design professional instruction that can be delivered via the classroom, the web, or through multimedia.

What is Instructional Design?

IDEA is especially designed for instructors who are using web-supported instruction or distance education.  Whether you're using a course management system (e.g., Blackboard CourseInfo, WebCT, eCollege) or an HTML-creation tool (e.g., Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamweaver), IDEA can help you accomplish common instructional tasks more quickly.

IDEA has two main goals:

1) Information: worksheets, tutorials, and FAQs.
2) Assistants: web-based "helper" programs that you can use to author syllabi, instructional objectives, evaluations, and more!

Front-End Analysis
Before any instruction is designed or delivered, a good instructional designer does a lot of analysis.
What is front-end analysis?

What is needs analysis?

What is audience analysis?

What is job analysis?

What is task analysis?

What is content analysis?

What is Bloom's Taxonomy?

Design
In Instructional Design, instruction is almost fully planned out before development of instructional materials begins.
What is involved in the design phase?

What is an instructional analysis?

What is an instructional strategy?

What is an evaluation strategy?

Development
It's time to make our  materials, and computers can help--a lot.
What will we be developing? But I don't have TIME!

Implementation
An integrated set of skills is necessary for effective delivery of instruction.

What is involved in the implementation phase?

Evaluation
Evaluation actually extends through all of the previous stages, but is especially important at the end.

What about evaluation? Parting words
